The students on the team will collectively make a news cast about the struggles of the working class. The goal of the project is to collect the knowledge from each subject area and combine the information into an informative news report on the various aspects of working class life from the past to present. The report will be broken into sections such as history, scientific aspects, math and statistics, and writing of the time period. The students will film their report and make a podcast of the audio. Both the video and audio will be uploaded to the wiki used as a home page for their cause. Furthermore, through the wiki, the students and teachers will try to contact sources outside of the school in order to find places where terrible working conditions exist, and other resources that can be tapped for the project. At the end of the news cast, the group will collectively write, argue, and defend their own ideas and suggestions in order to make their report a call for better working conditions.
Students will:
Use wikis, podcasts, videos, and computer research to market their newscast to the internet community.
Use their knowledge of the core subjects to create their newscast.
Students will try to contact outside resources and people in order to learn how working conditions are today in this country as well in other countries.
Students will, in their newscast, state suggestions to solve problems, call other people to help, and use their wiki as an information webpage for the internet community.
Students will make significant comparisons between historical events that depict working class struggles and issues still prevalent in factories today.
